Financial Planning For Special Needs Individuals - The Get Ready! Money Podcast

Financial Planning For Special Needs Individuals - The Get Ready! Money Podcast

On this episode of The Get Ready Money Podcast, I spoke with Bryan Jepson—Author, Financial Advisor, and Emergency Medicine Physician—about changing the way we think about financial planning for special needs individuals

Key insights:

🔹 How a Chartered Special Needs Consultant can help clients who have family members with special needs.
🔹 How an ABLE Account can help with Special Needs Planning.
🔹 Financial planning is not just about picking investments.
🔹 The true value of money is that it helps you buy back your time.

🔹 If you're truly wealthy, you work because you want to, not because you have to. Your assets work for you, not you for them.

🔹 Look for opportunities, look for skills and be curious.

Bio:

Dr. Bryan Jepson graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine, completed a residency in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is a board certified emergency medicine physician with 30 years of clinical experience.  More recently, he completed a masters degree in finance and risk management at the University of Colorado-Denver and the Certified Financial Planner education through the Boston Institute of Finance at Bryant University.  In addition to the CFP credentials, he holds the Chartered Special Needs Planner certification from the American College of Financial Services.

Bryan's interest in  finance stemmed from a long history of self-study and personal investing.  After a long and successful career in medicine, he decided to explore this interest further as an  "encore" career in financial planning and works for Targeted Wealth Solutions, an independent RIA with a focus on health care providers.  His interest in special needs planning comes from his personal experience as the father of two sons with autism. Bryan spent a portion of his medical career  treating children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders and is the author of a book called "Changing the Course of Autism" that was published in 2006.  Now, as a financial planner, Bryan  focuses part of his time serving the special needs community by helping families navigate the financial nuances of caring for adult children with disabilities for their lifetimes.

In addition to working with individual families as a financial planner, Bryan is motivated to improve general financial education for others, particularly physicians.  He has created a series of free youtube videos on important financial principles that you can find linked on his website, The Physician Finance Academy (www.physicianfinanceacademy.com).  He is soon to finish a new book called "12 Steps to True Wealth: for physicians and other high-income professionals" which will be available on Amazon or through the Physician Finance Academy website.
