An Amazing Year for Insurance Nerds

An Amazing Year for Insurance Nerds

An Amazing Year for Insurance Nerds

2018 flew by and I think it’d be nice to take a moment to reminiscence about how Insurance Nerds grew and evolved during this time:

  • We grew by a little over 35% year-over-year in both total hits and daily unique visitors to the website
  • We posted 52% more original content than in 2017
  • Our podcast Profiles in Risk has now produced 130 awesome episodes and has now fully transitioned to producing them on video and making them available on both video and audio formats. Listens per week grew from maybe 200 to 1,500!
  • Our “Total Distribution”, the broadest measure we have of how many insurance professionals we reach, grew from 25,851 on February 23, 2018 to 33,195 on December 31st or about 28% in just 10 months.
  • The reason I’m not comparing “Total Distribution” from 1/1/18 to 1/1/19 is because we added more factors on 2/23/18 so it’s not really an apples to apples comparison, but the old “Total Distribution” measure sat at 18,614 on 1/1/18 and the new was at 33,195 on 12/31/18, a massive growth of 78% in a year.
  • The email newsletter grew 66%.
  • We opened up our Insurance Nerds Slack Community and it grew to have 800 highly engaged insurance nerds from all over the world and it became an awesome community.
  • We partnered up with Gamma Iota Sigma to make one of our biggest dreams come true and hosted the first Insurance Nerds Day in Chicago and it was a giant success! (Look for more info on Insurance Nerds Day 2019 in Dallas soon).
  • On March 16 we published our second book, When Words Collide: Resolving Insurance Coverage and Claims Disputes by industry legend Bill Wilson.
  • The incredible Taryn Haas became even more integrated into our team, built a team of volunteer editors, created the processes and now manages the entire editorial process from soup to nuts so the blog can keep publishing awesome content even if Carly, Nick and Tony are too busy to handle it themselves.
  • Tony did a LOT of public speaking this year taking his highly rated “Engaging and Retaining Millennials in the Insurance Industry” to many, many conferences and private carrier events this year. 92% of all participants ever have rated it as “Very Good or Excellent”, click here if you’re interested in having Tony speak at your event.
  • We took massive steps towards making Insurance Nerds a self-supporting company (and assure it can outlive us) by successfully bringing in a few sponsors for the blog, podcast and the newsletter. Thanks to all sponsors and advertisers! If you think you might be interested in becoming a supporter, more info here.

Much more coming in 2019 and beyond!
