Every day our Daily Dispatch asks readers a question. Here are some of the more interesting replies we’ve received recently:

Cyber has really taken off in the last few years. What’s the next obscure side of insurance to get hot next?

Loss of Utilities endorsements- heard at state conference that for our E&O’s sake we need to include it on EVERYONE.

Maybe indoor vertical farm insurance is the next big obscure thing urban dwellers will need?

Has the industry improved when it comes for opportunities for women to grow? Are you still feeling like you’re not playing on a level playing field?

I would say the 14 years I have been in the industry it that it’s still very much a “boy’s club”. Very few companies have females in higher level leadership roles.

I have experienced discrimination because of my gender, exclusion because I don’t golf and co-workers making inappropriate comments because my company refuses to provide sexual discrimination training. My own company has absolutely no females in leadership roles.

While the opportunities for women have grown significantly, we have a long way to go. Within our actuarial organization, I don’t see much discriminatory behavior. But last month I was on a call with our (male) CFO and our (female) Chief Actuary, and I have a renewed appreciation for what those who have gone before me have overcome and are still dealing with.

The insurance industry is far behind when it comes to the advancement of women. Until more women are in leadership roles, it remains a man’s world. At my CPCU conferment in 2015 the board of trustees went on stage and it was all (mature) white men. Not a single woman. This needs to change. My feeling is that as more and more people retire- women are going to step into the leadership roles, as they have been getting the experience and gaining the expertise to take on the future.
