A 7 to 15 minute talk is short. Very short. Purposely short. It’s designed to force you to really work on your talk, to cut all the fluff away and bring it down to one single idea explored in interesting ways. This one single idea that unites your talk and that it all relates to. In such a short time frame you only have time to focus on a single idea, which you can look at from a few different angles if you want to, but a single idea. This idea is called the “throughline”. Here is a great video intro to what is the throughline.
At our upcoming Insurance Nerds Day at the Gamma Iota Sigma International Conference in Chicago on October 6th, we are dedicating half the day to TEDx style sessions and we want YOU to apply to be one of our speakers. For now all we need is the basic idea of your talk. We understand that this will change over time but we want an idea of what you want to talk about, the throughline of your talk.
We also strongly recommend that you read Chris Andersons TED Talk Guide and we will require that you present via video a few weeks before the event, so we can give you feedback to make sure your talk is as good as you can make it. We encourage both newer and experienced insurance professionals to present. Come tell us your story, tell us why you love insurance, tell us how the industry must adapt and improve, tell us what you’re passionate about.

If you’re interested in presenting in one of our longer skill labs, please email insnerds@gmail.com and Carly will work with you on figuring out whether you’d be a good match.
