Make It a Priority to be at InsNerds Day – You Won’t Regret It

Insurance Nerds Day is right around the corner (Sept. 28th!) , which baffles me. It feels like just a month ago I was meeting up with the most amazing and interesting people in insurance – no really, they are.

It’s taken me a while to process that day – arguably, I’m still processing it. It was that good.

To make that process a bit easier on both of us, here’s a nicely-bulleted list of what I got out of the event. And, if you think it would be helpful to you too, there’s still time to purchase tickets to the upcoming event in Dallas!

  • Meeting the most interesting people in insurance

I mentioned this above, but it’s crazy that I got to meet Rob Galbraith, Amy Waninger, Dr. Mark Tarmann, Tony Canas, Alicia Gross, Amber Wuollet, John Bachmann, Nick Lamparelli, Carly Burnham, Bill Wilson, and a ton of other people I’m sure I’m unforgivably forgetting. My point is, the chance to interact with all of those people at one event is crazy. I left the event with a lot of new ideas for my career, like that Product Management is incredibly interesting to me.

  • A Conference Not Centered on CE

That’s not to say you don’t learn a ton, but Insurance conferences usually involve CE classes, many of which are boring. At Insurance Nerds day you get a different crowd which means a different focus in the talks – a very forward-thinking focus. There’s certainly a lot of information in insurance coverages, but there’s also talks on where careers can lead you, what new generations care about at their jobs, and how to improve your work environment.

  • Meet the New Kids

Insurance Nerds Day is part of the Gamma Iota Sigma conference, which means most of the attendees are students. This is a unique opportunity to interact with a large amount of people that are about to enter the workforce and are already leaning toward careers in insurance. It’s an opportunity to get their take on things, what they care about, and the types of jobs they are looking for. It’s an opportunity to network with people when you have no idea where they’ll be in 5 years – and it could be that they landed somewhere extremely interesting.

I can’t say enough about Insurance Nerds Day. If you can make it down to Dallas on September 28th, please join us. Further information can be found here.

About Taryn Haas

I'm a philosophy nerd turned Associate Underwriter at Vermont Mutual. While I won't find Wittgenstein in CG forms, the language and logical constructs make both studies interesting to decipher. Occasionally, you'll find me playing my keyboard and singing passionately with my fiance at local cafes, or tucked into a corner writing sci-fi/fantasy stories.
