Insurtechs have A LOT going against them. They have to build a product, find product/market fit, gain traction, while simultaneously raising capital (and for many of them, raise capacity as well). Getting capital (and capacity) and building technology will consume 99% of their initial time and effort and whoops…now we have to find product/market fit and we need to do it fast. This is where many insurtechs begin to falter. They did so much hard work but now the distribution side of the business comes calling and they have already burned through a ton of capital just getting to that point. This is why brand and marketing strategy must become part of the overall strategy from day one!
